In a stunning twist, President Joe Biden has finally thrown in the towel on his faltering re-election campaign amid rising opposition from his own party. Instead, he’s backing Vice-President Kamala Harris to take on Republican titan Donald Trump.
Biden, 81, crawled out from his COVID isolation in Rehoboth Beach, Del., to announce on X that he’s bailing on his 2024 bid. He hasn’t been seen in public since testing positive, sparking rumors about his health and capability.
“Though I intended to run for re-election, it’s best for my party and the country that I step down,” Biden wrote, sounding more defeated than decisive. “I’ll focus on my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”
In a telling move, Biden has acknowledged his declining mental faculties and is opting for the quieter life at a local nursing home over the hustle and bustle of the White House.
Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison said the party will soon announce next steps, trying to mask the sheer panic behind the scenes. This is the first time in over 50 years that an incumbent president has ditched his party’s nomination – a true sign of the times for the floundering Dems.
If officially nominated, Harris, 59, would be the first Black woman to lead a major-party ticket. But let’s not forget, she flopped hard in her 2020 presidential run against Biden. Now, she’s the Dems’ last-ditch effort to avoid a Trump landslide. All we can say is that we’re happy the elder abuse is finally at an end!
